I first learnt to knit when I was about 4 years old and it has remained a constant hobby throughout my life.
I can honestly say, that knitting is an endless hobby, it can be as simple or as complex as you wish, it's also very therapeutic and a great stress buster.
The reasons for knitting now days have now changed, we no longer knit for for economy, but for the beauty of the craft and and sense of achievement, making something from scratch.
With knitted garments you can create beautiful shape and flare. From the basic formation of just 2 stitches you can achieve the most amazing colour patterns, textured stitches and my personal favourite, lace!
I usually have a couple of different projects on the go at the same time, something simple to make whilst watching TV or take to a group and also something that I need to concentrate on when I want more of a challenge.
You can view more of my knitting projects on my Gallery page, which will be updated as projects are completed.
Take a look at my Free Knitting Patterns which I've written in mind for beginners, or those who want something simple to knit. There is a Knitting Abbreviations page, which should help you with most of the abbreviated terms you'll see used in knitting patterns today.
I also have a Knitting Needles and Yarn Conversion page, which gives you the equivalent sizes between the UK and USA size knitting needles and also includes converting the old UK Imperial size knitting needles that were used in the past, (this may be useful if you are using older or vintage knitting patterns. The yarn conversions also give you the UK / USA equivalent yarns.
Also watch out of my "Top Tips for Beginners" Page coming shortly.
But most of all, enjoy....... and happy knitting. xx
