The Mystery Bag (The Bag of Many Colours) is a project I’ve designed for you to
make in small sections and without any major outlay.
The project will introduce you one square at a time to a variety of stitch patterns,
including textured stitches, twisted stitches, cables and bobbles in small sections.
At the end of the project I will also give you instructions on how to make a fabric
lining which is optional.
My bag will be made using 4 colours of (UK weight) Double Knitting yarn, cream, pale
lilac, grey and plum. However you can also make it all in one colour or even use
up oddments from your stash.
I have based my yarn quantities on using “Stylecraft Special Double Knitting” which
is 100% acrylic and measures 295 metres / 322 yards per 100 grams. You can use any
alternative make of standard DK yarn, however you may need to allow more yarn if
you are using a wool/acrylic mix yarn or 100% wool.
As the bag is knitted in sections
of contrasting colours it is not vital that the dye lot numbers on the ball bands
match either..!!

You will have now made all the pieces for the back section of your back, plus started to make the gusset.
In Part 5 - You will have now put the back section together and starting the front of your bag. In part 5 you will now start making the front setion of the bag.
This will all be published during the last week of May 2013.
So for now, happy knitting
Wendy xx
